The story behind the character
好
好 is 女 (woman) plus 子 (child). Not the word 女子. A woman with a kid standing next to her. The dictionary puts it bluntly: 好, 美也: "good, beautiful." A woman and a child, that was beauty. Three thousand years ago that was the whole standard, simple and honest.
