The story behind the character
送
送 is 辶, the walking radical, with a shape on the right built from two hands offering something up. Xu Shen defined it as 送, 遣也, "to send off." The picture underneath is somebody walking a guest out along the road. You don't just say goodbye at the door. You go with them part of the way.
