About this word
觉 is "to sense", the character you also meet in 感觉, and the 得 here is a light ending that carries no meaning of its own; the pair has hardened into one verb. 觉得 reports an impression or an opinion: 我觉得这个菜很好吃, 我觉得他不对. 觉
A shortened 學 on top, 见 (to see) below. From not seeing to seeing. That's waking up, realizing. Xu Shen wrote 觉, 寤也: "to awake."
得
The oldest 得 is a hand closing on a shell. 又, a hand, over 贝, a cowrie, which was money. By the seal script a road had been added on the left: 彳. Pick up cash on the road, and you have got something. Xu Shen wrote 得, 行有所得也, walking and getting. 觉得, 得到, 记得. Every one of them is a hand closing on something.
